AN EVERYDAY QUESTION

How to Stop Worrying About Money

Money worries can follow you around even when you are not actively thinking about money.

A bill that is coming.

A balance that feels too low.

Debt.

An unexpected expense.

The thought that something might go wrong.

Sometimes the worry is about a problem that exists today.

Sometimes it is about what might happen tomorrow.

Those are not always the same problem.

01 — NOTICE

Separate what is happening from what might happen

When money worry grows, facts and fears can easily blend together.

What financial problem exists right now?

What am I afraid might happen later?

Which of those two is taking up more space in my mind?

Both can feel real.

But they may need different kinds of attention.

A clearer problem is usually easier to face than a cloud of worry.

02 — CLARIFY

Make the money worry smaller

You do not have to solve your entire financial future today.

Try making the question smaller.

What needs paying first?

What number do I need to know?

What am I avoiding looking at?

What decision can wait?

What is the one financial thing that would make me feel slightly clearer today?

Clarity does not solve everything, but uncertainty often makes worry heavier.

03 — DIRECTION

Enough has two sides

Money can be unusual because the numbers and the feeling do not always match.

Do I actually have enough for what I need right now?

Do I feel that I have enough?

Sometimes both answers are no.

Sometimes the practical situation is manageable, but the feeling of insecurity remains.

Understanding which kind of enough is missing can change what deserves your attention.
